we didn't have a lot of luck going for us. this was one game and sure, you hate to lose the opener and we're at home here. but we have a lot of baseball left and these guys have been resilient all year. >> we weren't even thinking about the fact he had thrown a no-hitter. we had known he is an oustanding pitcher and if you don't get to him early, like brandon did early in the game, you usually don't get to him. the mid-innings he gets tougher and tougher and tougher. so we were fortunate tonight to get to him kind of early. >> a bump in the road on the magical ride that has been the oakland a's today as well. justin verlander had a lot do with that. coco crisps gets them off with a jump-start of the parker gave up the lead with his own error. parker tries to flip the ball to 1st, but it's an infield hit for berry. infante comes home on the error. ver lander struck out the side in the 6th. verlander struck out 11 athletics in 7 innings. the a's came close to evening it up in 8th. that was the last threat for the a's and tigers
